Throughout the ballet world, there are many different styles that are taught. Such as the Vaganova, Cecchetti, Balanchine, RAD, and Bournonville methods. No style is incorrect, however, each school aims to teach at least one method to their students.
I have had the privilege of learned bits and pieces of each method, but personally I enjoy dancing and teaching with Vaganova upper body and port de bras as well as Balanchine extension.

The Vaganova Method
-has a more clean-lined and soft style by incorporating smooth and graceful techniques. Port de bra with the head and arms is highly stressed in the Vaganova Method and is shown to be very effective during breathtaking performances using this method.
The Cecchetti Method
-focuses on dancing with your whole body, opposed to just using your upper body or just your legs. It is a simple but particular style.
The Balanchine Method
-is taught in schools like The School of American Ballet or New York City Ballet. It emphasizes a dancer's strength and agility, quickness and speed, as well as long, stretched port de bras and high arabesques.
The RAD Method (Royal Academy of Dance)
-was established in London. The attention to detail is key for this style, and they do not emphasize on accelerating fast in learning more and more difficult steps. Taking is slow and learning it correctly the first time is this method's main focus.
The Bournonville Method
-incorporates very simple arm movements and looks to inspire the dancer to connect their dance with the music so they flow simultaneously together. Also, quick footwork and low pirouette turns are used in this style of ballet.
